In the end, China lived up to the expectations and dominated Germany 3-0

After winning the women’s singles and the men’s singles titles, it looks like Team China is on it’s way to sweep all four table tennis golds. On Tuesday, Li Xiaoxia, Liu Shiwen and Ding Ning joined forces to defeat Germany and win the women’s team category.

Germany’s Han Ying, Shan Xiaona, and Petrisse Solja proved no match to China’s ping pong dynasty. China has won all four golds since the Beijing Olympics in 2008, when the team competition was introduced. China’s current team had 2012 singles gold medalist Li Xiaoxia and world No. 1 Liu Shiwen and Ding Ning who had just come off winning the singles title.

Before the match, Li Xiaoxia acknowledged the pressure hovering over their all-star roster.

“Of course there is a lot of pressure on us because we want to win all the golds,” she said. “But we have a lot of confidence in our abilities to win because we have such a strong team.”

In the end, China lived up to the expectations and dominated Germany 3-0. Even though they lost, Germany’s silver was the first women’s Olympic table tennis for that country and the first table tennis medal for Europe since the sport was introduced in 1988.
