Rio 2016: Table Tennis Events – Semifinals

Rio2016 Table Tennis Semifinals

Men's Semifinals

Although we have seen all the players in this semifinals play against each other many times before, it's the Olympic atmosphere which will make this time around special. Our favorite match for today is China's Zhang Jike vs. Belarus's Vladimir Samsonov.  Both are former World ranked No. 1 players and both are questionably carrying some form of injury into this event. This match should produce some awesome exchanges, long off the table rallies and crowd pleasing points. Jike will try to attack early and move his opponent around the table attempting to force errors. Samsonov, however will try to control the pace of the match, using lots of spin variations and off- speed blocks to disorient his opponent. Both are patient players so this match will be one of tactics rather than brawn.
