Rio 2016: Table Tennis Events – Quarter finals

Rio table tennis Quarterfinals

Women's Quarter-finals

The quarterfinal round promises to be entertaining with some expected matchups and a few surprises. Our favorite matchup on the Women's side is Li Xiaoxia vs. Cheng I-Ching - Both players have great footwork and excellent offensive games. Cheng's quickness and counter attack game will be her key to win points against Li. She will have to beef up her defences if she wants to have any chance against the current world no. 5. Li Xiaoxia, the defending Olympic champion produces great power from both wings and usually creates many opportunities by out placing her opponents with powerful and spinny shots. We can expect some fast paced rallies with powerful shots from both of the women.

Men's Quarter-finals

On the Men's side our favorite matchup is Ma Long vs. Quadri Aruna. Both are aggressive players with powerful forehands. Long, the favorite to win Gold is deadly both close or away from the table, his trademark forehand loop is extremely powerful and spinny. He will try to attack as quickly as possible to stop Aruna's offensive campaign.  Although Quadri Aruna is the heavy underdog he cannot be taken lightly.  Having already beaten former no. 1 Timo Boll and World No. 7 Chuang Chih-yuan, he has shown that he has what it takes to go all the way.  He is extremely fast and also possesses a powerful forehand that can be placed almost anywhere on the table. His key weapons in this match will be his ultra sharp mental game and his off-paced balls. Expect super fast rallies, powerful shots and lots of choing.
