Hugo Calderano

The Rio-born athlete led the underdogs by knocking off eleventh-seeded Tang Peng of Hong Kong in six games. The first two games were a dogfight; Tang took the first game 11-8, but Calderano fought back to win the second 14-12. The hometown crowd became more of a factor throughout the match and provided a tangible boost for the young Brazilian. With the match tied 2-2, Calderano went into overdrive and took the next two games to finish off Tang.
